Exercise: Getting Ready To Learn

Course: DNA Evidence for the Law Enforcement Professional
Course Setup and Overview

These modules, in total, will assist you in developing an approach (based upon knowledge) and a set of abilities. Call it your own personal (mental) tool kit.

Exercise: Right now, take a few minutes and think about some important activity in you life that you would like to get better at doing. Make it something that involves using tools or equipment and a mindset that strives toward improving your abilities in this activity. Write it down. Next, think about what you would like or need to learn about to increase your abilities. Finally, think about the tools or equipment that you already have. Do some of them needed to be upgraded? Do you need more tools or different equipment? Now write some things down on paper and hang on to it. You're not going to pass it in or have a discussion about your responses, unless you wish to.

If you take the time to do this to do this exercise and think about what you have written down, you will have a mind-set in place that will allow you to get the most that you can from this program. In the process, you will have developed a very effective and versatile “tool kit” in terms of how you look at a crime scene, crime scene evidence and how you work with people in the course of an investigation.
